The death of The Emirate’s President Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, president of the United Arab Emirates, has died. He passed away this Friday (Inna Lilahi wa Inna Ilaihi Rajiun).
Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, 73, was also the ruler of Abu Dhabi. He is the second President of the United Arab Emirates. Since November 3, 2004, he has been serving as president as well as ruler of Abu Dhabi.
The UAE’s Ministry of Presidential Affairs has condoled the death of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. However, there was no word on how he died.
According to the constitution, now vice-president and prime minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum will serve as the country’s interim president. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum also currently serves as the ruler of Dubai.
There are seven emirates in the United Arab Emirates. The Federal Council, made up of the rulers of these emirates, will sit down and elect a new president within 30 days.
